I wrote for my University’s newspaper. I loved that job, though my interview skills weren’t great. I wrote features mostly, and reviews. That kind of writing allowed me to be snarky, sarcastic, and enthusiastic.
One of my assignments was to go see a band play at The Ranger, which also happened to be one of my bars. My job was to review the show, and get some quotes from the band and the audience. The band did a really good job. What impressed me most were the two Zeppelin covers they did. They did Houses of The Holy as a reggae tune, and No Quarter acoustically. It was fantastic.
Since then I’ve had a soft spot for a really well-executed cover song.
